Your Questions Answered
1. What should I expect during a lactation consultation?
During your consultation, we assess feeding, observe your baby, and create a personalized plan together.
Each visit is tailored to your needs and may include a full feeding assessment, support with latch and positioning, and guidance based on your goals. You’ll have time to ask questions and receive practical, hands-on support in a calm and supportive environment.
2. When should I see a lactation consultant?
You can reach out at any stage — you don’t have to wait until something feels “serious.”
Families often seek support for latch or positioning concerns, pain during feeding, milk supply questions, or simply reassurance that things are going well. If something doesn’t feel right, it’s always okay to ask for support early.
3. What do lactation consultants do?
Lactation consultants provide support with all aspects of infant feeding.
As an RN and IBCLC, I offer personalized, evidence-based care to support feeding in a way that works for you and your baby. This may include help with latch, milk supply, pumping, bottle feeding, and navigating common challenges.
4. How is this different from public health services?
Public health services provide important and valuable support for families.
Private lactation care offers additional time, one-on-one attention, and a more personalized approach. Visits are unhurried and tailored to your unique situation, allowing for more in-depth support and follow-up if needed.
5. Is this covered by insurance?
In many cases, yes.
Some extended health benefit plans cover services provided by an RN and IBCLC. Receipts can be provided for reimbursement, and coverage will depend on your individual plan.
6. What can we talk about?
Anything related to feeding or your baby’s growth and development.
This is your time to ask questions, talk through concerns, and feel supported. Whether you need help with a specific issue or simply want reassurance, support is always available.
If you’re still unsure, we can talk through your situation and decide what kind of support feels right for you.
